Nanaimo International Film Screening Society
Mission
To gather back to the large screen a growing community of film lovers who enjoy and celebrate the transformative benefits of independent International and Canadian cinema.
Vision and Values
- Offer independent, international, Indigenous and Canadian films that enhance an awareness and value of diversity in culture, language and identity
- Offer films that transform our lives, our relationships, and our place in the world
- Screen independent films not easily accessible in cinemas on Central Vancouver Island
- Create an intimate and welcoming gathering space for lovers of alternate films to celebrate watching them together
- Help Canadian filmmakers share their stories with a wider audience and provide a platform to connect them with audiences through guest visits
- Build and strengthen partnerships with other groups in Nanaimo that focus on the film arts

About Us
The Nanaimo International Film Screening Society was formed on March 16th, 2024 by the following people who became the first board of directors: Glen Grunau, Sinjin Dixon-Warren, Sylvia Shedden, Donna Mattila, Lisa Chew, Sherri McEwen and Paul Tildsley. We are a registered Society in the Province of British Columbia.
