 itality of La Francophonie is celebrated around the world. We are pleased 
 to announce that this March\, NIFSS is partnering with L’Association des
  Francophones de Nanaimo to bring our feature film (Shepherds) and a speci
 al matinee (4 pm) family-friendly film (soon to be announced) to the Shaw 
 Auditorium. Shepherds premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Fes
 tival where it won Best Canadian Film and was named as a finalist for the 
 Rogers Best Canadian Film Award at the Toronto Film Critics Association Aw
 ards 2024. Following a medical wake-up call\, Montréal copywriter Mathyas
  Lefebure abandons his life in Canada to reinvent himself as a sheep herde
 r in the French Alps. After a rough start\, he’s joined by Élise\, a ci
 vil servant tempted by his stories of pastoral life\, and together they co
 mmit to a summer on the mountainside. Sophie Deraspe’s naturalistic\, be
 autiful adaptation of the real-life Lefebure’s 2006 book is clear-eyed a
 bout the messy and often brutal realities of a shepherding life\, while al
 so allowing us to see the wondrous spectacle that draws people to work on 
 the land.
